What is TASK?
TASK is an independent non-profit agency serving families of special needs children southwest Virginia. We work in partnership with PEATC to build positive futures for children. We work collaboratively with families, schools and communities in order to improve opportunities for excellence in education and success in school and community life. We provide support for families by giving informational workshops and presentations. All of our services are free and confidential.
In addition to workshops and presentations, TASK provides a four-week Summer Enrichment Program for special needs children in Tazewell County. This program is a collaborative effort with Tazewell County Public Schools. Each summer for the past 36 years, TASK has provided four weeks of recreational and educational programs for special needs children in collaboration with many local agencies. Applications for the 2020 Summer Program are available on the Our Programs tab.
To request an on demand workshop or presentation for your group or agency, please call our office. We have a list of valuable parent and professional focused trainings that include up to date materials approved by the Virginia Department of Education.
Our Mission is to ensure that families and children receive the support to achieve a "free appropriate public education designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment and independent living." TASK is committed to reaching all families, including traditionally underserved, rural and low-income populations and those families that do not know how their effective involvement can make a difference.
