Welcome!
What is TASK?
TASK is an independent non-profit agency serving
the special needs citizens of Tazewell County
for over 25 years. We help families' of
special needs children get the services they
need by providing information, referrals,
support groups, workshops and advocacy.
28th Annual TASK Summer Enrichment Program
It's time for the 28th Annual TASK Summer
Enrichment Program. Tazewell County
students, ages 4 to 20 years, receiving any type
of special education services are eligible to
attend. This program is a cooperative
effort between TASK and Tazewell County Public
Schools.
Our program includes academic work, field trips,
and recreational activities. Our summer
staff works with each child according to his/her
IEP. We employ experienced special
education teachers and aides. Speech
therapy will be provided with eligible students.
We are committed to the benefits of year-round
education for special education students and
believe a relaxed atmosphere makes the summer
effort fun for the children. Some of the
activities planned include: reading and art
programs, swimming, bowling, and personal safety
instruction. Tazewell Public Library will
present an exciting music program that will be
open to the public.

Giving Thanks to Our Supporters in 2010
We would like to thank the many organizations
and people that have helped TASK be successful!
This year we are grateful for the continued
financial support of the Tazewell County Board
of Supervisors for the use of office space in
the new Sheriff’s Department Building. The
Tazewell County Sheriff, H. S. Caudill and Chief
Brian Hieatt have also been extremely helpful in
assisting our agency to move to a larger space.
We are also thankful for the continued
collaboration with Tazewell County Public
Schools in operating the annual Summer
Enrichment Program for special needs children in
Tazewell County for the past
27
years. This effort would not be possible
without the support of the Tazewell County
School Board and Dr. Brenda Lawson.
This year’s Summer Program was also funded by a
grant from the Speedway Children’s Charity, and
the United Way of the Virginias, assistance was
also provided by Mountain Kids, Inc., Second
Chance Learning Center, Bluefield VA Quota Club,
CNX Gas, and other generous donors.
We would also like to thank Kurt Metz and Jack
Swain, partners of the new Tazewell Mercantile
for helping raise funds for TASK through the
October yard sales. We had many wonderful
volunteers, donations, and customers support
this first time event.
Office Move – New Sheriff’s
Department Building
As most of you know, in March, the Board of Supervisors
agreed to let us move into the old Social
Services Building at 315 School St. in
Tazewell. In the summer, the Sheriff’s Dept.
and 911 moved in and asked us to move to a
different location in the building. This gave
us more space and our own entrance. Sheriff
Caudill and Chief Hieatt made the move very
easy. We now have more room for meetings, our
resource collection, and storage. Please visit
and see our new space and browse our collection
of materials.
Handicapped access is through the front entrance
of the Sheriff’s Dept, until we get a ramp built
to our new entrance in the back. The best way
to enter our office is to park in the lot behind
the public library. The TASK office is the white
mobile unit attached to the back of the
Sheriff’s Dept. Building. If you have
difficulty finding us, please call
276-979-0408
Please Note that we do not receive mail at the
School St. address. Our mailing address is:
P.O. Box 877, North Tazewell, VA 24630
